According to Cleveland Clinic, fever, swollen lymph nodes and sore throat are the typical symptoms of mono. Fatigue, muscle aches and loss of appetite may also be present. Symptoms typically last one to two weeks but may last as long as two months.

WebMD notes the early symptoms of mono mimic the flu. A sore throat may become severe, and the fever is sometimes preceded by chills. In addition to fever and sore throat, head and muscle aches are the first symptoms to appear after the four- to six-week incubation period. After a couple of days, more symptoms appear. These include abdomen soreness due to a swollen spleen, skin rashes and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, under the arm and near the groin, according to Cleveland Clinic.
