Common symptoms of trigger finger include finger stiffness, popping or clicking when moving the finger, and soreness at the base of the finger. Another indication is the finger locking in a bent position. The locked finger may either pop straight abruptly or be unable to straighten, reports Mayo Clinic.

The symptoms of trigger finger are most common in the thumb, middle finger or ring finger. The condition may affect both hands at one time, and is usually more painful in the morning or when clutching an object. If the joint in the fingers swells or becomes hot, the patient may have an infection, according to Mayo Clinic.
