Does a "teacup dachshund" exist?
By Forinfos - 19/10/2025 - 0 comments
Though enthusiasts sometimes use the term "teacup" to describe a dog that is small for its breed, dachshunds are officially bred and shown only in standard and miniature sizes. A standard dachshund may weigh between 16 and 32 pounds, while a miniature dachshund must not weigh more than 11 pounds.
A member of the hound group, the dachshund was originally bred in Germany in the early 1600s as a hunting dog. Its characteristic short legs and long body allow it to hunt and track burrowing animals with ease. Today the dachshund is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States.
