There are painting computer programs available for children, with Tux Paint being the most popular. Designed for children of ages 3 to 12, it is free to download as of 2015.

Schools around the world have embraced Tux Paint for computer literacy drawing activity. The cartoon mascot who guides the children as they use the program makes it user-friendly. It also has funny sound effects that appeal to children. Drawing tools available on Tux Paint are a paintbrush, eraser, line tool, shape tool and "magic" tool. Others are text and label and undo tools. The program is available for use in 129 languages.
