What are Tempur-Pedic mattresses?

According to Tempur-Pedic, Tempur-Pedic mattresses are created from a memory foam called TEMPUR rather than traditional innerspring construction. The material conforms to the sleeper's body, theoretically offering better and more complete support in any position.
Memory foam, or viscoelastic foam, was originally developed by NASA in its quest to create safer and more comfortable aircraft and spacecraft seats. The foam has a solid open-cell construction that allows it to deform when warmed by body heat and then spring back to its original shape once the weight is removed. Fagerdala World Foams was the first to create a mattress based on this material, bringing it to the U.S. as Tempur-Pedic in 1991.
