What is "term" in math?
By Forinfos - 11/02/2026 - 0 comments
A term in mathematics is defined as a number, variable or number-variable combination in an algebraic expression or equation. Terms are separated from each other by a plus, minus or equal sign.
Terms also appear in sequences and are separated by commas. A sequence is an ordered list of numbers or other mathematical objects that are separated by commas.
Terms that contain the same variables or exponents are defined as like terms. For example, 3xy and 10xy are like terms due to the fact that they have the same variables, xy. Like terms are combined in simplification of polynomial expressions.
