How do you tie Sperry boat shoes?

The most common way to tie Sperry boat shoes is with a barrel knot. This can also be called an "Eastland knot" or a "heaving knot."

Boat shoes have leather laces that make it difficult for the regular method of shoe tying to last. A barrel knot is done to the end of each lace to prevent them from coming undone. To create a barrel knot, fold the lace over itself to form a small loop. Pinch the loop directly above the lace hole of the shoe. Twist the loop once or twice to create a base. Wrap the end of the lace around the loop four to seven times. Take the end of the remaining lace and slide it through the loop. To finish, pull the end of the lace while pushing the coil down toward the lace hole.
