Do tigers hibernate?

Tigers do not hibernate. However, they spend much of their time sleeping. They can clock up to 16 hours of sleep per day, meaning they can spend about 66 percent of their time asleep.
Tigers prey on large and medium animals, including several types of deer, wild boar, buffalo and domestic animals. Although they are capable of running up to 40 miles per hour in short bursts, tigers prefer to stalk and ambush their prey. With only one or two hunts out of every 20 successfully resulting in a kill, tigers constantly sleep to conserve energy. An adult tiger can go up to two weeks without eating.
