The sun's rays are strongest daily between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to Sun Safety Alliance. Experts suggest seeking shade, wearing protection or avoiding the sun altogether during these hours.
Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen that offers protection from both UVB and UVA rays. The sunscreen must also be SPF 15 or higher and waterproof. Wear wide-brimmed hats and wrap-around sunglasses as well as loose-fitting and lightweight clothing. Reapply sunscreen every couple of hours when out in the sun. Regular self-examination of the skin and studying moles using the ABCD method, which is an acronym for "Asymmetrical, Border, Color and Diameter," help to detect skin cancer.
