The Central Standard Time zone and the Eastern Standard Time zone are only one time zone apart. Therefore, there is a one-hour separation between the two time zones.
The Eastern Standard Time zone is one hour ahead of the Central Standard Time zone, so when it is noon EST, it is 11 a.m. CST. These are two of the four time zones that exist in the contiguous United States, and the seven U.S. time zones that exist including Alaska and Hawaii. Overall, there is a six-hour time separation between the latest zone (Eastern Standard Time) and the earliest time zone (Hawaiian-Aleutian Standard Time).
