What are the traditional liturgical colors used in the Catholic church?

The traditional liturgical colors used in the Catholic church are red, black, white, green and violet. These colors correspond to rites and masses on the liturgical calendar and are worn by clergy in accordance with the traditional calendar.

Two additional colors have been added in more recent years: rose and gold. Each color corresponds to an important ritual or rite in the Catholic church. For instance, white is worn by priests for sacraments of matrimony and baptism, red for the Passion and the funeral of the Pope, green during ordinary Sunday masses, and violet in the seasons of Lent and Advent.
