A travel card is a prepaid card used for traveling in place of cash. It gives consumers a choice of currencies depending on the destination. For example, travelers who are going to Britain or a country where euros and dollars are not the currency would use a sterling prepaid card.
When they use the it, the amount is converted to the country’s currency at the exchange rate set by the card company and taken off the card.
Prepaid cards are safer than carrying large amounts of cash and provide protection if the card is lost or stolen. The card company can block its use once the loss is reported. Some companies give consumers cash as a replacement in an emergency situation. Prepaid cards that are connected to Visa or MasterCard are accepted by retailers and cash machines in the same way as debit or credit cards.
