Chronic sinusitis is often treatable with at-home remedies, including saline nasal irrigation, decongestants and over-the-counter pain relievers. However, doctors can prescribe antibiotics for the condition, and in extreme cases, some patients undergo surgery, reports Mayo Clinic.
Hallmarks of chronic sinusitis include a thick, yellow nasal discharge, nasal congestion and pain around the eyes, cheeks and nose. Other patients with the condition experience a sore throat, ear pain, bad breath, nausea or fatigue. Chronic sinusitis often develops after a patient experiences several cases of acute sinusitis, a temporary sinus infection. Patients experiencing symptoms of chronic sinusitis should visit a doctor for treatment, advises Mayo Clinic.
