When do you treat your lawn for grubs?

Lawns should be treated for grubs in late summer and early fall. Inspections can be performed by digging up small sections of sod and examining the soil. If 10 or more grubs are present in a square foot of sod, it is important to treat the lawn.

Natural treatments for grubs include milk spore and beneficial nematodes. Milk spore is a natural bacteria that feeds off of live grubs, but it can take up to three years for the bacteria to acclimate to the soil. Beneficial nematodes are live worms that can be directly released into the soil. The worms are drawn to the grubs and kill them with their natural bacteria. Lawns can also be treated with preventative and curative chemical pesticides.
