What is a treatment for male candidiasis?

Antifungal creams, such as clotrimazole or econazole, are the typical treatment for candidiasis in males, reports Boots WebMd. For candidiasis that lasts longer than two weeks despite treatment, a doctor may prescribe an oral fluconazole tablet.

Other antifungal creams prescribed for the treatment of candidiasis include ketoconazole and miconazole, states Boots WebMd. A person can purchase antifungal creams over-the-counter. If antifungal treatments and two weeks of fluconazole do not successfully treat the fungal infection, a doctor may recommend the patient see a dermatologist for special treatment.

Candidiasis is more commonly known as thrush, explains Boost WebMd. The fungus that causes thrush, candida albicans, is found naturally in the body. Weakened immune systems, diabetes and other health conditions cause the fungus to multiply resulting in thrush.
