Pinched or compressed nerves may require one or more types of treatments based on the severity of the condition, such as rest, medications, physical therapy and surgery, according to WebMD. Compression occurs when something presses on the nerve, such as tendons, bones or ligaments.
Some people may find that rest and restricting painful activities relieve pain symptoms. Medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen help some people. Doctors also sometimes prescribe oral corticosteroids to relieve the symptoms. Some people need surgery to remove bone or scar tissue that is compressing the nerve. Doctors may also refer patients for physical therapy, states WebMD.
