Trigger finger is not a dangerous condition, but it can be painful. It is caused by inflammation of tendons and results in soreness at the base of the finger as well as a painful clicking sensation when the finger is bent or straightened, according to WebMD.
Trigger finger is caused by repeated movement of the finger or by forceful use over a long period of time. This condition can be diagnosed by a physician. Treatment consists of rest of the affected area, sometimes accomplished with a splint, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Treatment generally results in a cure within a few weeks, says WebMD.
