"Chicago Fire," which airs in the United States on NBC, and "Rescue Me," which aired on FX from 2004 through 2011, are two television shows that are set in a fictional firehouse and follow fire fighters. Additionally, in 2005, Discovery Channel aired a reality show called "Firehouse USA: Boston," which chronicled the true stories of a Boston fire department.

"Chicago Fire," is from executive producer Dick Wolf of "Law & Order." NBC ordered a spin-off series, "Chicago P.D.," set in the same universe, in 2013. NBC also ordered a second spin-off, "Chicago Med," which premiered in 2015. NBC has had several crossover episodes between these three series and "Law & Order: SVU," mixing elements of fire fighting, fire investigation and other criminal investigations as part of long-running story arcs.

"Rescue Me," which premiered in 2004, was set in New York City and frequently covered issues related to the September 11th World Trade Center terrorist attacks and the ways the attacks changed both fire fighting and the lives of fire fighters. For example, many of the characters in the series struggle with the loss of family and friends who died in the attacks or have post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of their experiences in responding to the tragedy.
