Who are two authors of the Federalist Papers?

The two authors most commonly associated with the Federalist Papers are former U.S. President James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the U.S. treasury. The third author, John Jay, became the U.S. Supreme Court's first chief justice. Hamilton was responsible for writing most of the documents.

The Federalist Papers include 85 letters that Hamilton, Jay and Madison wrote to various newspapers in 1787 and 1788. The letters were sent anonymously under the pen name Publius, and they were designed to persuade readers to ratify the U.S. Constitution. The completed articles were published as a book called "The Federalist" in 1788.
