The 1963 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport was available as a hardtop coupe or two-door convertible with a choice of V-8 engines producing between 250 and 425 horsepower. Impala SS models were offered with a choice of three-speed manual, four-speed close-ratio manual or two-speed PowerGlide automatic transmissions.

The primary distinguishing feature of SS models of Chevrolet Impalas during the early 1960s was the presence of engine-turned aluminum trim that was not offered on any other version of the Impala. All Impala SS models also had a V-8 engine and were not available with the standard 140-horsepower inline-6 engine used in the base Impala.
