Some popular Spanish desserts include turron, which is an almond candy, flan and polvorones, or almond cookies. Other desserts from Spain are mantecados, or Spanish crumble cakes, and catalan cream, a Spanish version of creme brulee.
Polvorones are made by toasting 1 1/2 cups flour and 3/4 cups raw almonds in the oven. The almonds are then finely ground using a food processor. Combine the toasted flour and ground almonds with 5 ounces of butter, 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Flatten the cookie dough to a 1/2-inch thickness, and use cookie cutters to make the desired shapes. Bake the cookies for 25 to 30 minutes at 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
