What are some types of Volkswagen camper buses?

The most well-known type of Volkswagen camper van is the Volkswagen California, a camper van based on the Volkswagen Transporter. Many companies and owners have also produced custom camper conversions of Transporters.

The Volkswagen California name was originally used for Transporter camper vans converted by Westfalia but sold by Volkswagen. Volkswagen began producing factory-built Californias based on the T5 Transporter after Westfalia was acquired by DaimlerChrylser. Californias of any vintage are rare in the United States as the T5 Transporter was never sold in that market. Most camper vans based on earlier generations of Volkswagen vans are therefore custom conversions.
