What is the typical processing time for a direct deposit?

Direct deposit typically takes two to three business days from check issuance. The employer initiates an electronic file via payroll software to the receiving bank, which then posts the funds to the recipient's account.
Direct deposit has increased in popularity over the last few decades for many reasons. As opposed to processing a printed check that the employee has to manually deposit and then wait for funds availability based on bank policies, direct deposit allows for a much quicker turnaround time in receiving funds. Since the funds are verified upon receipt, banks are able to post the money as immediately available to customers.
