What is the typical prognosis for stage 3 sarcoma?

Individuals with stage III sarcoma have a relative five-year survival rate of 54 percent. For sarcomas that develop on the arms or legs, five-year survival rates are slightly higher, at 56 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.

The prognosis for an individual with stage III sarcoma is dependent on such variables as the age of the patient at time of diagnosis, the location and type of the sarcoma and the type of treatment, reports the American Cancer Society. The stage of cancer is determined at the time of diagnosis and doesn't change even when the cancer progresses or spreads. Rates of prognosis are based on the stage of cancer at the time of diagnosis.
