Some typically prohibited carry-on items include firearms, sharp objects, various types of tools and explosive devices. Common examples of these include BB guns, knives, hammers, fireworks and spray paint. It is important to note that although these are prohibited carry-on items, some are allowed via baggage check.
BB guns are an example of a firearm that can't be carried on, but can be checked with other baggage. Conversely, other types of firearms, such as flares, are prohibited in both regards. Nearly all explosive devices are 100 percent prohibited, with some exceptions being lighters, nonflammable liquids, such as hand sanitizer, and safety matches.
