Every North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball game is televised, as of the 2015-2016 season, and several Tar Heels women's basketball games are televised as well. The majority of North Carolina men's games appear on national television on the ESPN family of networks.

As one of the highest-profile basketball programs in the United States, North Carolina enjoys extensive media exposure. The Tar Heels won their 12th national championship in men's basketball, a total matched by only one other school. ESPN plans to air up to 10 North Carolina men's games on its flagship network during the 2015-2016 season and is scheduled to show several Tar Heels men's and women's games on ESPN2.
