What is an under-cabinet can opener?
By Forinfos - 15/04/2026 - 0 comments
An under-cabinet can opener is a small electric appliance that can be mounted beneath an upper kitchen cabinet, and is used to open canned foods. The advantages of an under-cabinet can opener are twofold: they do not take up counter space and, being electric, they easily open canned foods.
The first electric can opener was patented in 1931. Early designs were for free-standing units, which were a significant improvement over the manual lever-type, church-key and rotating wheel openers that often took longer to use and required more strength and dexterity to operate. Later innovations in electric openers led to space-saving designs like the under-cabinet openers.
