To get rid of ants, create a mixture that is one-half powdered sugar and one-half baking soda. Sprinkle the mixture over the affected area or contain it in an open jar.
Ants tend to stay away from baking soda, but the sugar forces the ants to digest the baking soda. Once the mixture has begun to kill the ants, they have typically made their way back to the queen. Water can be added to the mixture to make a paste. If too much water is added, the mixture is not effective. To keep food surfaces clean indoors, use vinegar to get rid of the chemical trails of the ants.
