How do you use watercolor pencils?

Coloring and shading with watercolor pencils is similar to the process used with regular colored pencils. It is the addition of a light coat of water as the final step that gives the image the texture of watercolors.

1. Sketch a picture

   Using a drawing pencil or charcoal, make a light sketch of an image. It is not necessary to add too much detail; a rough outline is generally sufficient.

2. Color and shade

   Lightly and evenly color the image with watercolor pencils. Add patches of lighter and darker colors to create shadows and highlights on the image.

3. Spray with water

   Spray the image with a fine mist of water from a spray bottle. Brush it lightly with a paintbrush to blend the colors.
