What is a utility trailer?

Utility trailer is a general term that refers to any non-motorized vehicle that is pulled by a motorized vehicle meant to haul other vehicles, animals or equipment. Utility trailers can be simple flat-bed trailers with two wheels, or they can be enclosed, such as a horse trailer.

Utility trailers attach to motor vehicles with a hitch, most commonly the simple ball hitch. Most utility trailers do not come equipped with their own active break system. Instead, the trailer relies on the momentum of the vehicle towing it. Utility trailers also have a carrying-weight limit that should not be exceeded for safety reasons.
