Valentino red refers to a shade of red popularized by Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani. The fabric shade has been popular since Valentino began using it in the early 1960s.
Valentino red is a shade of fabric used to make gowns. According to Forbes, Valentino red is "orangey rouge" in color. As stated by Biography, Valentino's designs (the distinct red gowns in particular) attained worldwide praise within only a few years of the opening of his fashion house in Rome. Garavani earned the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award in 1967. In 1969 he began to make red-heeled shoes to match his red dresses. Early admirers of Valentino's work included Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy.
