What is a CV joint on a car?

A CV joint is the commonly used term for a constant velocity joint, which maintains drive shaft speeds regardless of the joint's angle. CV joints are often found in the drive shafts of front-wheel-drive vehicles.

CV joints come in two basic types: the Rzeppa ball joint, which is housed in the outer end of the drive shaft, and tripod joints, which are housed in the shaft's inner end. These joints are normally protected by rubber boots which keep out dirt. Common symptoms of faulty CV joints include car vibration and clicking noises emanating from the front end of the vehicle.
