The highest all-time bid for a car at a Barrett-Jackson auction was $5.5 million for a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake, as of March 2015. The no-reserve auction took place in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Jan. 21, 2007.
The Super Snake has a 427-cubic-inch V-8, and Shelby produced only 23 units. The 1966 unit was the first Super Snake conversion, and people call it the Cobra to End All Cobras.
The second-highest Barrett-Jackson bid in history was $4.62 million for the original Batmobile, which was a modified 1955 Ford Futura. Barrett-Jackson sold the 1966 Batman car at its Jan. 19, 2013 Scottsdale auction.
