How do you know if a Visa Prepaid card has been activated?

Some brands of Visa gift card allow cardholders to check the current status of the card by simply entering the card number, expiration date and CVV via a website. If this option is not available, there is usually a toll-free number that can be called to check the card's status.

Some merchants who issue Visa gift cards have the ability to check the card's status at point of sale. As of March 2015 there are 14 major retailers with a national presence such as Target, Kmart, Office Max and Toys R Us that are able to do this. The issuing merchant should be contacted to determine what their policies are.
