Volunteer matching tools take into account the physical locations of individuals interested in volunteering, as well as their interests and passions. Idealist.org allows volunteers to specify whether they are interested in ongoing volunteer opportunities or only volunteering at special events. Volunteer matching tools do not coordinate volunteers themselves. They generally list the contact information of the volunteer coordinator of a given organization so that the interested volunteer can initiate contact.
