When do you get your W2?

An employer has to send a W2 to current and former employees by January 31. Therefore, an employee can expect to receive his W2 before or right after the January 31 deadline.

If an employee has yet to receive a W2 by February 14, the Internal Revenue Service can be notified but not until then to allow the form to arrive through the mail.

When inquiring about a missing W2, there is certain information to have when contacting the IRS. This includes an employee's name, address, phone number and Social Security number. The employer's name, address, employer identification number and an estimate of wages earned may also be needed.
