The Bluebird service is available only to U.S. residents who are 18 years of age or older. Bluebird is not available in the state of Vermont. In some states, the customer must be at least 19 years of age to open a Bluebird account.
Bluebird is a joint venture between Wal-Mart and American Express designed to be an alternative to traditional banking. With a Bluebird account, customers have access to ATM withdrawals, direct deposit, online bill pay and mobile check deposit using the Bluebird smartphone app. Bluebird customers may also write pre-authorized checks that are not subject to overdraft or stop payment fees as the deduction from a customer's account occurs prior to the check being cashed.
