How do you wash linen pants?

Martha Stewart recommends washing linen pants in cold water only. You should preferably do this by hand, rather than using a washing machine.

1. Prepare the linen pants for washing

   Prepare the linen pants for washing by removing all items from the pockets. If there are stains present, add a little stain remover and leave it to settle into the stain.

2. Fill a sink or washing bucket with cool water

   Fill a sink or washing bucket with cool water. Using cold water ensures you do not disrupt the natural fibers. Add your laundry powder to the water. Avoid using any product containing bleach or other whitening agents, as they can cause linen to lose its shape. Instead, opt for a hand wash solution that is gentle, such as the type you use to clean silk.

3. Leave the linen pants to soak

   Leave the linen pants to soak according to the instructions on your hand wash solution's packet. After leaving it to soak, rub at any stains using a little detergent.

4. Remove excess water from the pants

   Remove excess water from the linen pants by squeezing them by hand. Do this until water no longer flows excessively when you squeeze.

5. Let the pants dry

   Let the pants dry, preferably by hanging them outdoors. If you are drying them indoors, avoid drying them near a radiator, as this can cause stiffness.
