Wash a motorcycle by removing bug and tar spots with a special cleaner, cleaning hard parts with a degreaser, scrubbing the wheels with a brush, and cleaning the paint and chrome with soapy water and a microfiber mitt. Rinse gently with a hose, and dry with a chamois cloth.
- Mix a bucket of soapy water
Mix warm water and a little liquid dish detergent in a large bucket.
- Remove bug and tar spots
Spray any bug or tar spots with a commercial bug and tar remover. Use a damp sponge to remove the spots gently.
- Clean the hard parts with a degreaser
Carefully spray hard parts of the motorcycle, such as the pipes, engine and swing arm, with a degreaser. Avoid getting the degreaser on painted or chrome surfaces. Scrub each hard part individually with a rough rag to clean it. Use a toothbrush dipped in degreaser to scrub detailed areas.
- Scrub the wheels with a long-handled brush
Apply a commercial wheel cleaner to the wheels. Scrub thoroughly with a scrub brush.
- Wash painted and chrome parts with soapy water
Dip a microfiber cleaning mitt in the soapy water, and use the mitt to clean all painted and chrome surfaces. Rinse and moisten the mitt frequently.
- Rinse well
Rinse the entire motorcycle with a soft stream from a garden hose.
- Dry
Dry the motorcycle with a chamois cloth. Take a ride to finish air drying all of the motorcycle's surfaces.
