Satin pillowcases add a touch of luxury to your bed and can be kept looking good and feeling smooth with a few precautions. Use a mild laundry detergent and place the pillowcases in a bag before washing. The process takes the same amount of time as washing other delicates in your machine, but line drying is recommended. Wash new pillowcases before the first use and then weekly.
Remove from the pillow
When you remove satin pillowcases, turn them inside out before washing. This prevents the satin from rubbing against other fabrics.
Place pillows in a bag
Use a mesh laundry bag, or place the satin pillowcases in a cotton pillowcase and tie it closed before washing.
Wash with similar materials
Wash satin items with other soft materials or by themselves. Avoid washing with towels or clothing with zippers or buttons that could snag the satin. Choose the delicate cycle on the washing machine, and wash in cold water.
Hang to dry
Dry your pillowcases on a line to prevent exposure to the heat and wear of a tumble dryer. If you don't have a clothesline, hang the pillowcases over a clothes hanger with plenty of air circulation to dry.
Iron as needed
If the pillowcases have wrinkles, press them with an iron set to the lowest steam setting. Avoid ironing from the outside to protect the satin finish.
