How do you wash stuffed animals?

Some stuffed animals can be washed in the washing machine while others can't. Reading the tag is the best way to determine exactly which method is appropriate for washing a specific toy.

For stuffed animals that can go into a washing machine, it is advisable to first place them in a mesh garment bag or pillow case. Wash the toy using cold water in the delicate cycle. For toys that can't be machine washed, hand washing with a gentle detergent is the best method. Mild detergents or a color-safe bleach product such as Oxi-Clean can be used for gentle spot cleaning. Baking soda or cornmeal can absorb grease stains and odors. For the best results, stuffed animals should be air dried.
