How do you wash a tie?

Wash a tie by pretreating stains and washing it by hand. You need a gentle laundry detergent, rubbing alcohol, talcum powder or cornstarch, a blow dryer, towels and a tub or container.
- Pretreat stains
Before washing a tie, pretreat any stains with talcum powder or rubbing alcohol. For oily stains, use talcum powder or cornstarch. Pour the powder onto the stain, and allow it to absorb the oil overnight. For other stains, dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the stain, and blow-dry the wet area. Repeat as often as needed.
- Use the appropriate type of detergent
Purchase a gentle laundry detergent to wash the tie. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Prepare the water
Fill a container with lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon of detergent.
- Wash the tie
Place the tie in the soapy water. Gently agitate the tie in the water to distribute the detergent throughout the fabric. Do not scrub, twist or pull on the fabric.
- Rinse the tie
Empty the container, and refill it with cool, clean water. Place the tie in the water, and move it around until the soap has been rinsed away.
- Dry the tie
Gently squeeze out excess water, but refrain from wringing the tie. Lay the tie on a dry towel, and roll the two items up together to remove water. Remove the tie, and lay it flat on another dry towel until it finishes drying.
