A water heater drain pump is a motorized machine designed to drain water from a water heater or transfer water from one receptacle to another. The pump can be electric- or battery-powered and is useful for other tasks, such as pumping water out of a boat bilge or pool cover.

Water heater drain pumps feature the capacity to pump water at temperatures up to 135 degrees Fahrenheit. A pump may have a transfer rate of up to 1,400 gallons per hour, or an integrated handle design for easy carrying. When draining hot water from a water heater, the pump is typically used with a hot water hose that is able to withstand temperatures up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
