Watermelon is not bad for dogs. The water content in watermelon is actually beneficial for dogs and can prevent dehydration; however, the rinds and seeds of watermelon are not healthy for dogs to eat.
Watermelon contains magnesium, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C. Watermelon is low in calories and makes a good treat for a dog during hot weather. An adequate snack consists of one to three 1-inch watermelon pieces.
Other fruits that dogs can eat include a variety of berries. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries make ideal treats in moderation. Limit the snack size to two or three berries at a time. Dogs can also eat bananas, oranges (without the rind), pears and kiwi.
