What is wave interference?

By Forinfos - 22/09/2025 - 0 comments

Wave interference describes the effects of the meeting of two waves that are travelling on the same plane or medium. The meeting of the waves causes the medium they are travelling in to change into a shape that reflects the net effect of both waves.

Wave interference can be classified as either constructive or destructive, depending on the net effect of their cumulative amplitudes. Constructive wave interference occurs when the amplitudes of both waves add to each other, causing a displacement in the same direction. Destructive interference occurs when the net value of the two wave amplitudes results in a lesser or negative value.
