What are some ways to control Poa annua weeds?

Watering the grass deeply but infrequently and setting the mower between 3 and 4 inches helps prevent the growth of Pao annua. Herbicides can also control Pao annua on lawns.

You should spread a pre-emergent herbicide in August or September to prevent Pao annua seeds from sprouting. Do not apply non-selective herbicides to ornamental plants or turf unless the product packaging directs you to do so, as some herbicides also kill non-weed plant species. To reduce Pao annua without herbicides, place landscape fabric, black plastic sheeting or a thick layer of mulch over the affected areas. A well-maintained, healthy lawn reduces the level of resources available for weeds.
