To help a strained groin muscle, place ice inside of the thigh, compress the thigh, take anti-inflammatory painkillers, and perform stretching and strengthening exercises, recommends WebMD. Rest the area, which may require several days.
Placing ice inside the thigh reduces swelling and inflammation, explains WebMD. Do this for 20 to 30 minutes every three to four hours for two to three days or until the pain stops. Take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as naproxen and ibuprofen. Depending on the severity of the injury, stretching and strengthening exercises can start immediately or after rest days, as guided by the health provider.
