Students can make mummy models for school by creating figurines out of simple items, such as clay, wood, foil or toy dolls, and wrapping them with cloth, plaster bandages, gauze or papier-mache. More elaborate mummy models can lay inside sarcophagi made of cardboard or wood.

Students can make simple figurines with long wooden rectangles or more elaborate ones by shaping clay or foil to form heads, arms and legs. They should then adhere the wrapping to the figurines with glue or water, depending on the material. Wrapping the arms separately from a figurine's body and crossing them creates a more realistic mummy. Students can decorate homemade sarcophagi with hieroglyphics using markers or paint.
