A weeping redbud is a multi-trunked, deciduous tree that matures to reach heights of 20 to 30 feet. It produces purple flowers in early spring before the foliage comes out.
Weeping redbuds are native to eastern and central North America. They are found in open woodlands, thickets and limestone glades and along rocky streams. Their 1/2-inch-wide flowers bloom in clusters of four to ten. Weeping redbud’s leaves turn pale yellow or greenish-yellow in the fall. The trees grow best in full sun or partial shade, although partial shade is best in hot climates. Weeping redbuds do not require a lot of water, but they grow best with consistent moisture.
