What is the weight of wood?

The weight of wood varies widely depending on the species of the tree, the amount of wood being weighed and the moisture content of the wood.
A lack of standardized wood weighing parameters prevents a comprehensive collection of wood weights. A weighing, however, of many types of wood at a moisture content of 12 percent and size of one cubic foot results in a valid comparison between wood weights. With this method, red oak is found to weigh 45 pounds per cubic foot, and western red cedar weighs 22.5 pounds per cubic foot. Thus, western red cedar, at a moisture content of 12 percent, weighs half as much as red oak.
